72andSunny Launches National TV Campaign for Quiksilver; Spots Tie Into ESPN Winter X Games Nine

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 26, 2005

Advertising and design firm 72andSunny has teamed up with action sports industry leader Quiksilver on a multi-spot TV campaign, a rare instance of a leading action sports brand partnering with an outside creative agency.

Quiksilver is a Gold Level Sponsor of the ESPN Winter X Games Nine in Aspen, Colorado from January 29 ? February 1, 2005, and has several of its signed athletes competing, including two of the top snowboarders riding today, X Game medalists Todd Richards and Danny Kass. The campaign comprises the spot ?Popcorn? as well as a series of commercials that star Richards and Kass, inspired by campy 1960s surf movies. 72andSunny Creative Directors Glenn Cole and John Boiler collaborated very closely with Quiksilver Global Creative Director Natas Kaupas, and with director Charles Wittenmeier of prodco Area 51. The spots break January 20 on ESPN, FOX Sports and ABC, with additional ads featured exclusively at http://www.quiksilver.com.

?The campaign is perfect for us, timeless and entertaining, highlighting the beauty of snowboarding while letting our riders? personalities shine through. I believe the talent and flexibility of 72andSunny made this possible,? said Natas Kaupas, Global Creative Director, Quiksilver. ?Not only do I think the 72 crew is nice and easy to work with, I know they are?because they were able to rally an amazing team of talented professionals to work under ridiculous deadlines and produce top-notch spots.?

Quiksilver?s roots date back to 1970, when two Australian surfers founded the company after designing the perfect boardshort. Since then, the brand has become an international action sports icon, with distribution around the globe. In recent years, Quiksilver has acquired other youth-oriented companies, including DC Shoes, Roxy, Gnu, and Hawk Clothing.

The spot ?Popcorn? features the Quiksilver snowboarding team as a tight group of super-talented riders who pop off in a visual and audio symphony of amazing tricks. Shot on-location at the Mammoth Mountain Park in California with the riders launching themselves off a jump for the better part of a day.

The Richards and Kass spots use the fun, kitschy surf movies from the 1960s (like Gidget and Beach Blanket Bingo) as visual inspiration. The ads even incorporate music produced and composed by Tom Baxter, grandson of Les Baxter, who scored many of the surf movies of that era. For the humorous dialogue scenes between the two athletes, Kass and Edwards were shot against a rear projection screen, which created the purposefully low budget look and effect of Kass and Richards ?snowboarding? against a park background when, in actuality, they were goofing off on a Burbank sound stage. The director then interspersed these dialogue segments with cutaway trick shots culled from stock footage.

The Kass-Richards spots were mostly unscripted, focusing instead on the entertaining dynamic between the two riders and the hilarious situations that serendipitously transpired on set. ?Dog? features Kass?s dog Elvira, who was brought to the shoot and was quickly drafted into a scene. ?Medals? riffs on the fact that Richards is older than Kass, and has won a lot of medals. Kass, however, has a trophy of his own?a huge gilded affair he keeps tucked snugly in his snowboarding pants. Other spots capture the athletes? various playful shenanigans, as they slap each other with stuffed monkey dolls, insult one another?s mothers, and take turns as ?guinea pigs? (which in snowboarding parlance means someone who tests out a jump or run).

?It was great to work with the talented Quiksilver in-house creative team on this campaign. We were totally in sync every step of the way, and I think that comes through in the work,? said John Boiler, co-creative director at 72andSunny. ?It balances the relaxed, lighthearted vibe of the typical X Games fan with the core performance and style of Quiksilver as a brand.?

National Association of Professional Women Greater Memphis Local Chapter held another successful networking meeting in October

(PRWEB) October 12, 2011

National Association of Professional Women's Greater Memphis Chapter held another successful networking meeting in October. NAPW Greater Memphis Chapters October meeting included the introduction of new attending members, chapter objectives and membership benefits, the past meetings summary, and a discussion of the future chapter's agenda.

Onika Shirley, Chapter President, started out by asking the group to introduce themselves. She then provided an informative presentation on NAPW member benefits and highlighted the local chapter Community Wall and the great features of the Business Resource Center. The path to the Business Resource Center was shown to members along with visuals of the Business Plan Template and the Start-up Cost Template. She provided members a copy of last months meeting minutes and informed them on where they can find them via the NAPW website.

The chapter then invited members to express why they joined NAPW and what they expected to get out of their membership.

"I joined NAPW to expand my networking opportunities and to gain new friendships," Kris said.

As a group we feel, networking is on the rise and it is all about contacts, networking and possibilities, added Onika.

The group discussed ideas for encouraging new members to join NAPW and how to get existing members to attend future meetings. The chapter discussed future meeting dates, potential future meeting topics, guest speakers and volunteering for community services. Members agreed that hosting a guest speaker would be great and Gayle suggested conducting a Q & A session with the speaker to gain a nuts and bolts" understanding on how they got where they are and what they had to do to get there.

"I like the idea of community events," said Gayle and Kris expressed that she "loves doing community service."

It was decided to have the monthly meetings scheduled for the 1st Saturday of every month to avoid having to choose a different date every month. The group will continue to discuss meeting locations and times that are most convenient for the majority of the group. Members expressed that they were willing to travel to different locations in the surrounding area to have meeting place flexibility. The group agreed to connect on LinkedIn and Gayle provided an update on the progress of her business.

The chapter anticipates having more members to attend future meetings to vote in on chapter positions.

As president, I am opening the following positions: Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. I am hoping to have these positions filled during the meeting in December 2011, Onika said.

The meeting was very productive and Onika extended her appreciation to everyone in attendance. We will continue to grow with the collaboration of ideas from all the great members of our local chapter and the insights from future guest speakers. When we aim to achieve success, nothing can stop us but our own failed efforts. We haven't failed, until we fail to try. I am looking forward to the next meeting and hope you are able to attend to share your ideas and insights for the growth and success of our local chapter, she said.

Promote yourself, promote your business, and promote your careers.

Generation Opportunity Reacts to December Jobs Numbers: National Unemployment Levels Remain Above 8 Percent for 35 Consecutive Months

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 06, 2012

Washington, DC (1/6/12) Generation Opportunity President Paul T. Conway, former Chief of Staff of the US Department of Labor, responds to the December 2011 jobs numbers report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

Young Americans can no longer wait and trust that change will come. With so many individuals needing to settle for less than satisfying employment opportunities and delaying major life decisions, todays unemployment numbers offer little hope. Young people need real full-time job opportunities challenging and satisfying jobs that launch them into their careers.

Unfortunately, they are now being told that there is a new picture of success that should be sufficient to them one marked by short-term fixes, internships, mentorships, and multiple part-time jobs. Young adults know the difference between substance and spin, and they do not want to be told to settle.

If our nations elected leaders want to show true empathy for those without jobs and have a real impact, they will stop pretending they have any expertise with job creation, admit their job-killing policies of over-regulation and increased taxes are the true barriers to youth employment, and step back and let private employers do what they do best."

December's 8.5% overall jobless rate fails to reflect the significant and ongoing challenges faced by young Americans. Hidden behind the numbers is the fact that many Americans have either accepted short-term, seasonal work or simply given up looking for work and are therefore not factored into the unemployment rate.

Bloomberg news reported last month that the November 2011 jobless rate was partly due to a 278,000 gain in employment at the same time 315,000 Americans left the labor force while the labor participation rate declined to 64 percent from 64.2 percent.

In addition, Bloomberg noted that a temporary bump could also have been attributed to seasonal considerations because employment at service-providers increased 126,000, including a 50,000 gain in retail trade at companies hired for the holiday shopping season. The number of temporary workers increased 22,300. November and December are months that typically see the heaviest amount of part-time, seasonal hiring as retailers and other businesses gear up for the holiday season.

Generation Opportunity commissioned a poll with the polling company, inc./WomanTrend (April 16 22, 2011, +/- 4% margin of error) and select highlighted results for all young Americans ages 18-29 appear below:

Dissatisfaction with Current Level of Employment and President Obamas Handling of Unemployment:

????43% are not satisfied with their current level of employment.
????Just 31% of 18 29 year olds approve of the President Obamas handling of youth unemployment.

Leaders In Washington, D.C. Fail to Reflect Interests of Young Americans:

????69% say the current leadership in Washington fails to reflect the interests of the younger generation.
????Only 36% believe there is the right leadership in Washington.
????61% indicated that a candidates positions on issues and record in office will be more important than charisma and likeability when they cast their vote for President in 2012.

Government Spending and Economic Opportunity:

????76% of overall Millennials would favor a decrease over an increase in federal spending from its current level if given the chance to set Americas fiscal priorities.
????69% prefer reducing federal spending over raising taxes on individuals in order to balance the federal budget.
????59% of overall Millennials agree the economy grows best when individuals are allowed to create businesses without government interference.
????53% of overall Millennials agree if taxes on business profits were reduced, companies would be more likely to hire.

2012 What Would Make Young People More Likely To Vote?

????When asked, Which, of the following, would make young people more likely to vote? young Americans indicated:

o????66% Facebook Message Reminder

o????58% Text Message Reminder

o????38% Email Reminder

o????28% Public Service Announcement
