72andSunny Launches National TV Campaign for Quiksilver; Spots Tie Into ESPN Winter X Games Nine

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 26, 2005

Advertising and design firm 72andSunny has teamed up with action sports industry leader Quiksilver on a multi-spot TV campaign, a rare instance of a leading action sports brand partnering with an outside creative agency.

Quiksilver is a Gold Level Sponsor of the ESPN Winter X Games Nine in Aspen, Colorado from January 29 ? February 1, 2005, and has several of its signed athletes competing, including two of the top snowboarders riding today, X Game medalists Todd Richards and Danny Kass. The campaign comprises the spot ?Popcorn? as well as a series of commercials that star Richards and Kass, inspired by campy 1960s surf movies. 72andSunny Creative Directors Glenn Cole and John Boiler collaborated very closely with Quiksilver Global Creative Director Natas Kaupas, and with director Charles Wittenmeier of prodco Area 51. The spots break January 20 on ESPN, FOX Sports and ABC, with additional ads featured exclusively at http://www.quiksilver.com.

?The campaign is perfect for us, timeless and entertaining, highlighting the beauty of snowboarding while letting our riders? personalities shine through. I believe the talent and flexibility of 72andSunny made this possible,? said Natas Kaupas, Global Creative Director, Quiksilver. ?Not only do I think the 72 crew is nice and easy to work with, I know they are?because they were able to rally an amazing team of talented professionals to work under ridiculous deadlines and produce top-notch spots.?

Quiksilver?s roots date back to 1970, when two Australian surfers founded the company after designing the perfect boardshort. Since then, the brand has become an international action sports icon, with distribution around the globe. In recent years, Quiksilver has acquired other youth-oriented companies, including DC Shoes, Roxy, Gnu, and Hawk Clothing.

The spot ?Popcorn? features the Quiksilver snowboarding team as a tight group of super-talented riders who pop off in a visual and audio symphony of amazing tricks. Shot on-location at the Mammoth Mountain Park in California with the riders launching themselves off a jump for the better part of a day.

The Richards and Kass spots use the fun, kitschy surf movies from the 1960s (like Gidget and Beach Blanket Bingo) as visual inspiration. The ads even incorporate music produced and composed by Tom Baxter, grandson of Les Baxter, who scored many of the surf movies of that era. For the humorous dialogue scenes between the two athletes, Kass and Edwards were shot against a rear projection screen, which created the purposefully low budget look and effect of Kass and Richards ?snowboarding? against a park background when, in actuality, they were goofing off on a Burbank sound stage. The director then interspersed these dialogue segments with cutaway trick shots culled from stock footage.

The Kass-Richards spots were mostly unscripted, focusing instead on the entertaining dynamic between the two riders and the hilarious situations that serendipitously transpired on set. ?Dog? features Kass?s dog Elvira, who was brought to the shoot and was quickly drafted into a scene. ?Medals? riffs on the fact that Richards is older than Kass, and has won a lot of medals. Kass, however, has a trophy of his own?a huge gilded affair he keeps tucked snugly in his snowboarding pants. Other spots capture the athletes? various playful shenanigans, as they slap each other with stuffed monkey dolls, insult one another?s mothers, and take turns as ?guinea pigs? (which in snowboarding parlance means someone who tests out a jump or run).

?It was great to work with the talented Quiksilver in-house creative team on this campaign. We were totally in sync every step of the way, and I think that comes through in the work,? said John Boiler, co-creative director at 72andSunny. ?It balances the relaxed, lighthearted vibe of the typical X Games fan with the core performance and style of Quiksilver as a brand.?

Into the Woods: America Outdoors Helps Kids Experience the Great Outdoors

Knoxville, TN (Vocus) March 25, 2008

Is your child spending too much time with electronic gaming? Do they need another perspective on fun and life? Members of America Outdoors, an international association of outfitters and guides, provide a wide range of family-oriented activities that include whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding and horse packing, camping, hiking, fishing trips, bike tours, and dude ranches. Trip planners and information are now available on the organizations consumer website http://www.adventurevacation.com.

Children today are inundated with media messages, video games, cell phones and movies which can take them away from spending time playing outdoors. Statistics show that Americans now spend 90% of their time indoors. Everyone benefits from the enrichment and knowledge that comes from spending time in nature. They learn to appreciate the environment and make a connection with the natural world. Some see the wonders of Milky Way for the first time while away from the glare of city lights. Kids especially need to visit the National Parks, State Parks, and National Forests with their families to learn about the history and culture of the US and to immerse themselves in nature.

A camping trip or visit to a nearby river or forest for a family vacation is easy and memorable and teaches good values about the outdoors and environment. Using the adventurevacation.com website and reviewing information about how to plan a trip is a great place to start. Outfitters make the experience easy for first timers by helping decide which trip is appropriate for your family one that is not too difficult but sure to engage teens that are difficult to please.

AO was established in 1990 and has members who operate in 43 states and 50 foreign countries. Their mission is the conservation and enhancement of quality outdoor experiences on Americas lands and waters. America Outdoors represents the outfitting industry and the public that the industry serves in policy-making to maintain access to recreation resources while pursuing a goal of responsible shared-use of our precious natural heritage.

For more information about how America Outdoors can help you and your children enjoy the great outdoors, visit the website or contact David Brown at 865-558-3595.

ShowClix Introduces Axess, a Google Android Application that Transforms Android-Powered Devices, Including Nexus One, into Barcode Ticket Scanners

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) January 27, 2010

ShowClix - a full-service ticketing company that provides web-based solutions to event organizers, promoters and venue managers - today introduced ShowClix Axess, an application created for the Google Android operating system that transforms Android-powered devices, including Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid and HTC myTouch, into barcode ticket scanners. While Axess runs on most Android-powered devices with an autofocus camera, ShowClix is providing its ticketing clients with Axess-ready, Nexus One devices exclusively.

Axess is the product of years of frustration with the existing barcode scanning options that have been available to our clients. The introduction of Axess and our new ticket scanners carries the innovation of our web-based platform to the door of the venue, says ShowClix CEO Joshua Dziabiak. Our new ticket scanners arent just easy-to-use and affordable, theyre also packed with features that give our clients more flexibility and control over the way they admit ticket buyers into their events. Venues and event promoters finally have a better option when it comes to barcode scanning.

Android-powered devices provisioned with ShowClix Axess can verify tickets online in real-time by connecting to any wi-fi or cellular network. If a wi-fi or cellular network is not available, or the device loses connection to a network, users can continue to scan and verify tickets offline. Multiple ticket scanners running Axess can be used at several check-in points at a venue without having to be networked. In less than two seconds per scan, the devices can read both 1D and 2D barcodes appearing on thermal tickets, print-at-home e-tickets or mobile tickets. In addition to quickly scanning tickets for entry into an event, Axess scanners also provide users with a checkout mode that allows them to scan tickets in and out of an event for re-entry. Axess devices also include search functionality that lets users obtain detailed customer information directly from the ticket scanner. Customer information can be retrieved through the applications voice recognition search feature or by manually inputting details such as the customer name, confirmation ID or barcode number.

Joker Productions (http://www.jokerprod.com), a Pittsburgh-based production company that has been booking and promoting concerts since 1989, was one of the first companies to use the new Axess-powered, Nexus One ticket scanner. The scanner has worked very well, says Joker Productions Founder Jon Rinaldo. Weve even had a number of customers comment on how cool and cutting edge the scanner is. Im happy to be partnered with a company like ShowClix. Not only are they helping my company stay ahead of the curve, but theyre developing tools that help out the ticketing and concert industries as a whole.

In conjunction with the launch of Axess, ShowClix is giving away two free Axess-powered, Nexus One ticket scanners to the first five qualified venues or event promoters that enter into an exclusive ticketing agreement with ShowClix. To learn more about the ticket scanner giveaway, or the ShowClix Axess Android application, visit http://www.showclix.com/axess or contact Lynsie Camuso at lynsie@showclix.com or 724.653.6903 ext. 301.

The next-generation ticketing solution is completely customizable; offers more features and flexibility than larger competitors; gives clients real-time control of customer information and sales reports; offers some of the lowest service fees in the industry; and costs absolutely nothing to use.
